The Issue is the Tissue: FAQ’s about MonaLisa Touch

dr-rabinBy Steven A. Rabin, MD, FACOG

What is the MonaLisa Touch?

MonaLisa Touch is an absolutely, revolutionary, nothing-like-it-before treatment that we now have to help women with problems due to vaginal atrophy. MonaLisa Touch at Advanced Gynecology Solutions is the same technology that is used to revitalize skin in other parts of the body. It works with a Fractional CO2 Laser (much like the laser used on the face), which is a series of dots that creates a very superficial, treatment of the tissues which stimulates resting cells to come back to life. The tissue reacts by making new blood vessels, collagen, glycogen, elastin, moisture, and hydration. This is what brings tissue back to a healthy, youthful, functional status. What is the issue?

The issue is the tissue! As estrogen levels fall the tissue of the vagina becomes very dry, losing elasticity and vitality. You are left with burning, itching, tightness, and discomfort. Women shouldn’t be uncomfortable and left thinking about ‘things down there’ all day long. This condition of vaginal atrophy may develop from premature menopause, hysterectomy, breast cancer treatment, and natural menopause. For some women medications may help these issues, but many women are unable to use these medications. Some women choose not to use these medications. And for some women all the medications in the world aren’t fixing their problems.

Is MonaLisa Touch a proven procedure?

Yes! This is a treatment that has great scientific validity. Peer reviewed journals have published studies on this particular procedure. Thousands of women (about 15,000 at last count with no adverse effects reported) have had this treatment done already in Europe and Australia, and it is now FDA approved here in the U.S. You can have this done in our Bubank office, in a matter of minutes.

Will the treatment hurt?

MonaLisa Touch is virtually painless and requires no numbing creams, no anesthesia, and no pain-killers. While the first treatment may be a bit uncomfortable (just getting the treatment wand inside), no patient in my experience has had to discontinue the treatment because of discomfort.

How long is the MonaLisa Touch treatment?

At Advanced Gynecology Solutions you can be in and out of the office without even rushing in less than 30 minutes. The prescription is for a series of 3 treatments scheduled 6 weeks apart. Most women (70% – 90%) see results after the first treatment with continued and significant improvements over the next 2 treatments. The benefits last a year or longer, with a single annual treatment for maintenance thereafter.

  1. I think I probably submitted a comment already but will do so again as it has now been 1 week and two days since my first Mona Lisa procedure and I could literally yell from the roof-tops of anyone’s home with glee at how absolutely amazed and pleased I am!!!! Dr. Rabin is simply amazing as is Gohar, the woman who coordinates all the procedures prior to your having it done…huge A+ for them both!!!!! Also – huge A+ for the Mona Lisa Touch – better and better and better each day – making love is just that – making love again – who knew?????!!! I had long given up hope of ever having that happen again which was terribly disheartening for sure and depressing but – no longer – the “down there” feeling is gone in a good way – no more itching or painful sitting – I id yoga for the first time in what seems forever – am taking it slowly but still -= to check in must say – I am amazed. Thank You Thank You Thank You!!!! Please know – I am your biggest fan or sure!!!!!! Big blessings to all!!!!
